A True Partnership
Partnerships are invaluable to Mercy Housing Northwest’s mission, and 2020 was a reminder of how important these relationships are. To create homes that serve families, seniors, veterans, and people with special needs, it takes the dedication of like-minded organizations working together. Success is about alignment of values, and Walsh Construction Co. is a partner that has made an incredibly positive impact on Northwest communities. Together with Walsh, we have created nearly 700 affordable homes that serve 1,500 people, including 500 children.
Building affordable housing from the ground up with Walsh starts with a contract, but our relationship far exceeds that. We are impactful because Walsh shares our belief that people earning low incomes deserve respect, justice, and mercy, and that begins with a stable affordable place to call home. From the start, Walsh is focused on equitable hiring opportunities and work with pre-apprenticeship programs to build the next generation of skilled workers. Both Mercy Housing and Walsh have met equitable hiring and outreach goals on our most recently completed projects. From Seattle to Portland, and preconstruction to completion, Mercy Housing and Walsh are always working toward healthy, vibrant communities.
“Walsh’s experience building with Mercy Housing Northwest has gone above and beyond the typical client — general contractor relationship to one of true partnership with a remarkable foundation of trust, collaboration and mutual respect. We wholeheartedly enjoy working with their team and most importantly, are so gratified to be part of their important mission to provide critical housing and services throughout the Pacific Northwest,” said Dennis Maples, Vice-President, Walsh Construction Co.
Mercy Housing and Walsh worked closely to accelerate construction on Gardner House. When the development was completed a month early in January 2020, this accomplishment was so much more than a job well done. It meant that 95 households, including families experiencing homelessness, got a home — a place to do homework, cook healthy meals, and create positive memories. At a time when the pandemic was tearing at the fabric of society, Walsh and Mercy Housing made sure that families in need had a little certainty in an uncertain world.
