COVID-19 Response

After the pandemic hit, Resident Services creatively adjusted to meet residents’ needs — focusing on food distribution, financial benefits, out-of-school time for youth, and keeping residents stably housed. Food services increased by more than 500% since 2019, with 96,919 food services through partnerships with Bank of America, Microsoft, Albertsons Companies Foundation, Food Lifeline, Northwest Harvest, and many others. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to quickly respond to urgent needs for resident families, seniors, and those most vulnerable.

Groundbreaking News

We broke ground on two new affordable housing communities. Cedar Crossing, located in Seattle’s vibrant Roosevelt neighborhood, is a 254-apartment family community and early learning center in collaboration with Bellwether Housing. Completion is planned for 2022 and will include innovative community partnerships with Sound Transit, Mary’s Place, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and El Centro de la Raza. Mercy Rosa Franklin Place is a 60-home senior housing community, with one-third of the homes having a leasing preference for veterans. Mercy Rosa Franklin Place is our fifth community in the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma.

Nourishing Communities

With a generous $500K grant from Bank of America, MHNW was one of four nonprofit housing organizations to participate in the Community Kitchens for Affordable Housing Residents program. This funding allowed us to collectively tackle two immediate challenges: food insecurity and struggling small, local businesses. Together, we partnered with over 20 BIPOC and women-owned restaurants who helped us serve nearly 25,000 meals to residents in our communities over a four-month period. Thanks to Bank of America for helping residents, local businesses, and our communities.

New Partnership

The Albertsons Companies Foundation provided $270K in funding to ensure families at all MHNW communities across Washington state have access to healthy and culturally appropriate foods through socially distanced deliveries. $70K of the funding provided healthy snacks for youth during remote learning. We served over 16,000 snacks in 2020, with ongoing support for this program in 2021.

Expanding Our Footprint

We secured funding in 2020 for two new developments that are anticipated to start construction in 2021. Vancouver PeaceHealth, a nearly 70-home family community, will allow us to serve even more families as we build our first development in Vancouver, WA in partnership with PeaceHealth, who donated both land and capital funding for the project. With three developments operating in Bellingham, WA, Mercy Housing will grow our presence with Barkley Village, a 77-home family community that will offer an Early Learning Facility onsite to serve more than 100 children, in partnership with Whatcom Family YMCA.
