Reflecting on 2020

message from the president

2020 was, without question, one of the most challenging years ever for Mercy Housing Mountain Plains (MHMP) residents and staff. The health problems caused by the COVID crisis, and related loss of life, employment, socialization, and recreation took its toll on our community.

We all had to learn to work remotely, and/or work onsite at our properties with new safety protocols, including cleaning, masking, and social distancing. Our regularly scheduled site programs were reinvented to respond to increased needs around food insecurity, the ability to connect to the internet, and social isolation.

Despite all the challenges, we have so much to be grateful for at MHMP. Our team on the ground and in the office did an outstanding job of rising to the challenge. New philanthropic partners stepped forward to help with our response. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and helped ensure that the residents who call Mercy Housing home were able to stay safe and housed.

MHMP communities received essential support thanks to the generosity of donors and our community partners. Staff were able to adapt and sustain the critical Resident Services for which Mercy Housing is known. Our team provided food, supplies, personal protective equipment, hot spots, tablets, and rental assistance. We helped both students and seniors navigate digital learning, and kept residents engaged and connected with virtual community meetings and programs and online activities for kids.

Our real estate development staff did an outstanding job keeping our property renovations and new developments going to ensure that our affordable housing is highly livable, and the amount of housing we provide expands. Many thanks to our investors, lenders, public partners, contractors, and professionals who worked with our team to keep these vital projects going.

The property and asset management teams made sure that properties continued to operate, and our bills were paid. The admin team and back-office support were there day in and day out, to keep all the wheels of the corporation turning.

Also, a very special thanks to everyone who participated in our virtual fundraising events: Home/Maker in Colorado, Live in Hope Midwest, and One Day for Seniors in the Southwest!
